  • RWA contracts generated $213 billion in trading volume and contributed 6.6% of Hyperliquid’s $169 million quarterly protocol revenue.
  • Hyperliquid has now generated more than $1 billion in cumulative protocol revenue, returning $141 million to HYPE token holders through buybacks during the quarter.
  • Growing investor demand continues to drive expansion across the tokenized asset market, with global RWA holders reaching 1.6 million.

RWA Trading Becomes Major Growth Driver

Decentralized exchange Hyperliquid reported that tokenized real-world asset (RWA) perpetual contracts accounted for 32.2% of its total trading activity during the second quarter of 2026, highlighting accelerating institutional and retail interest in blockchain-based representations of traditional assets.

According to the platform’s quarterly report, RWA perpetual contracts generated approximately $213 billion in trading volume during the quarter, marking another significant increase from 20.7% in the first quarter and just 1.8% during the fourth quarter of 2025.

The rapid expansion reflects growing adoption of tokenized financial products across decentralized markets.

Revenue Continues to Grow

Hyperliquid generated $169 million in protocol revenue during the second quarter.

The platform reported that RWA trading contributed approximately 6.6% of quarterly revenue, demonstrating that tokenized assets are becoming an increasingly meaningful contributor to its business.

Hyperliquid also surpassed a major milestone during the quarter, reporting more than $1 billion in cumulative protocol revenue since launch.

As part of its tokenomics model, the exchange returned $141 million to holders of its HYPE governance token through token buyback programs.

RWAs Become Largest Trading Category

Momentum continued beyond the second quarter.

Hyperliquid reported that tokenized real-world assets became its largest trading category for the first time in July.

During the week of July 13 to July 19, RWA contracts represented approximately 52% of the platform’s total weekly trading volume.

By the end of July, trading volume in RWA perpetual futures reached 99.2% of the volume recorded by Bitcoin perpetual futures, illustrating how rapidly demand for tokenized traditional assets has expanded.

Tokenized Asset Market Keeps Expanding

Growth on Hyperliquid mirrors broader expansion throughout the tokenized asset industry.

According to RWA.xyz, the number of investors holding tokenized real-world assets increased 56% over the past month, reaching approximately 1.6 million holders.

Meanwhile, the total value of tokenized assets recorded on public blockchains rose 3.3% to approximately $37.8 billion.

The figures underscore continued institutional and retail interest in bringing traditional financial assets onto blockchain infrastructure.

Tokenization Gains Institutional Momentum

Real-world asset tokenization has become one of the fastest-growing sectors within digital finance.

Financial institutions increasingly view tokenized securities, credit products, money market funds and other real-world assets as a way to improve settlement efficiency, expand market accessibility and enable continuous trading through blockchain technology.

Hyperliquid’s growing RWA trading activity highlights how decentralized exchanges are becoming an increasingly important venue for these emerging financial products.

Outlook

Hyperliquid’s latest results demonstrate the accelerating adoption of tokenized real-world assets within decentralized finance. As RWA trading continues to capture a larger share of platform activity and institutional participation expands, tokenization is increasingly emerging as one of the primary growth drivers for blockchain-based financial markets. The continued rise in investor participation and onchain asset value suggests that tokenized traditional assets are becoming an increasingly important component of the broader cryptocurrency ecos
