Key Takeaways

  • MoneyGram has launched its crypto cash-ramp infrastructure on Solana, connecting the blockchain to a global network spanning more than 170 countries and nearly 500,000 retail locations.
  • The expansion strengthens Solana’s position as a payments-focused blockchain as stablecoin activity increasingly shifts toward remittances, cash access and real-world financial services.
  • MoneyGram’s move follows its decision to become a Solana validator and supports a broader strategy to connect traditional payment infrastructure with blockchain-based settlement.

MoneyGram has expanded its crypto cash-ramp services to the Solana network, allowing users to move between cash and digital assets through infrastructure connected to one of the world’s largest money-transfer networks. The move comes as stablecoins increasingly shift from primarily trading-related applications toward payments and remittances, creating a stronger connection between blockchain liquidity and traditional financial infrastructure.

MoneyGram Extends Cash Access Across Solana

MoneyGram’s Ramps infrastructure provides cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-cash functionality through a single API, with coverage extending to more than 170 countries. The company’s broader network reaches more than 60 million customers and nearly 500,000 retail locations, giving blockchain applications access to a physical distribution network that most crypto-native platforms cannot easily replicate.

The Solana rollout is significant because it reduces one of the structural barriers facing digital assets: converting blockchain-based balances into usable local currency. MoneyGram’s infrastructure supports USDC cash access, while its platform is also designed to provide identity verification, compliance and settlement capabilities.

For crypto markets, the strategic importance is less about immediate trading volume and more about improving the connection between onchain assets and everyday financial activity.

Solana’s Stablecoin Economy Is Expanding

The expansion arrives as Solana records substantial growth in stablecoin activity. Stablecoin transaction volume on the network reached approximately $650 billion in February, according to industry research, while Solana’s stablecoin transfer activity continued to remain elevated through the first half of 2026.

The network also recorded significant growth in real-world financial applications. Solana’s real-world asset value reached approximately $3.6 billion in June, up 33% from the previous month, highlighting the increasing use of the blockchain beyond speculative token trading.

MoneyGram’s integration therefore fits into a broader shift toward using Solana as infrastructure for payments, remittances and tokenized financial products.

Institutional Infrastructure Moves Deeper Onchain

MoneyGram’s involvement with Solana extends beyond cash ramps. In June, the company became an active Solana validator and joined the Solana Developer Platform, giving it a direct role in network infrastructure while developing blockchain-based payment products.

The move followed MoneyGram’s launch of MGUSD, its own U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoin, as the company seeks to build blockchain infrastructure around cross-border money movement. It also follows a broader wave of institutional adoption, including Mastercard’s expansion of stablecoin settlement capabilities on Solana across a network covering more than 210 countries and territories.

The combination of cash access, stablecoins and institutional infrastructure could make blockchain rails increasingly relevant to remittance markets where traditional transfers can remain costly or slow.

Strategic Outlook

MoneyGram’s Solana expansion illustrates how the next stage of crypto adoption may depend less on new trading products and more on connecting digital assets with existing financial networks. The key test will be whether users generate sustained demand for cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-cash services at meaningful scale. If transaction activity continues shifting toward stablecoins, remittances and real-world payments, integrations such as MoneyGram’s could become an important component of the emerging digital financial infrastructure.
