SKN | Bitcoin Tags $65K as S&P 500 Rebounds on US-Iran Signals and Bond-Market Strain

Bitcoin returned to $65,000 on Tuesday for the first time in a week as risk assets recovered from recent lows despite renewed geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran. The rebound came alongside a recovery in the S&P 500, while a sharp rise in long-dated Treasury yields added a separate warning signal for investors assessing inflation, government borrowing and broader financial-market risk.

Bitcoin and Stocks Rebound as Hormuz Tensions Persist

Bitcoin rose to $65,000 after the US stock market opened, extending gains for the week as the S&P 500 rebounded from 7,696, its lowest level since Aug. 4. The move showed that cryptocurrency and equities remained responsive to shifting geopolitical headlines, although Bitcoin’s recovery was not accompanied by a decisive break of key technical resistance.

The latest market moves followed comments from US President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments. Trump said the strait was “open and operating” and stated that mines had been removed or detonated, while also saying there were no scheduled talks with Iran.

Oil prices remained relatively contained despite the geopolitical backdrop. WTI crude was down about 1% at $84 per barrel, suggesting that traders were not yet pricing a major escalation in energy-market disruption.

Treasury Yields Create a Separate Macro Warning

While equities recovered, the bond market presented a more cautious picture. The US 30-year Treasury yield reached 5.34%, its highest level since January 2007, increasing pressure on financial conditions and raising questions about the sustainability of risk-asset gains.

BNY Mellon analyst Geoff Yu attributed the move partly to investors demanding greater compensation for inflation risk, while also pointing to elevated government borrowing. Rising long-term yields can challenge speculative assets by increasing the relative attractiveness of fixed-income instruments and raising the discount rate applied to future asset valuations.

For Bitcoin, the development is particularly relevant because the cryptocurrency remains highly sensitive to changes in global liquidity and investor risk appetite. A continued rise in borrowing costs could limit the ability of BTC to sustain a recovery even if geopolitical tensions ease.

Bitcoin Faces a Critical Technical Test

Bitcoin’s technical structure remains at the center of the near-term outlook. Trader and analyst Aksel Kibar identified $62,300 as a key level in a potential reverse head-and-shoulders formation, arguing that a sustained rebound needs to develop from the current region.

The upside case would place $76,000 as a potential target if the pattern confirms. However, failure of the structure could expose Bitcoin to a deeper decline toward $53,000, according to Kibar.

Another obstacle sits at $65,827, where Bitcoin’s 50-month exponential moving average currently provides resistance. The level is particularly important because the latest rebound toward $64,500 previously failed to overcome the broader trend line.

Investor Sentiment Hinges on Liquidity and Geopolitics

The market is therefore confronting two competing forces. Easing concerns around Hormuz and renewed equity-market strength could support risk appetite, while elevated Treasury yields and continued geopolitical uncertainty could restrict further upside.

Bitcoin’s return to $65,000 is significant, but the move alone does not establish a durable trend reversal. Investors will likely focus on whether BTC can convert the rebound into a sustained break above $65,827 and eventually challenge $76,000.

The next phase of price discovery may depend less on the headline rebound itself and more on whether global liquidity improves, bond-market pressure stabilizes and geopolitical risks remain contained. Until those conditions align, Bitcoin remains vulnerable to sharp moves in either direction.
