SKN | MoonPay Adds Cash App Pay for U.S. Crypto Purchases, Expanding Digital Asset Access

MoonPay has integrated Cash App Pay into its crypto checkout, giving eligible U.S. customers a new way to purchase digital assets directly with their Cash App balances as the payments company broadens its role across the crypto financial infrastructure.

Cash App Becomes a New Gateway to Crypto

MoonPay’s latest payment integration connects one of the United States’ widely used consumer payment platforms with a broader range of cryptocurrency markets. Eligible Cash App users can now fund crypto purchases through MoonPay without switching between applications or completing a separate login process.

The service is available through MoonPay’s own checkout and selected partners, including Trust Wallet, Bitcoin.com, MetaMask, Moonshot, Ledger, BitPay, Uniswap, Tangem, LOBSTR and Edge. The integration effectively turns Cash App balances into a more flexible funding source for digital assets beyond the Bitcoin transactions already supported directly within Cash App.

59 Million Users Create a Significant Distribution Channel

The scale of Cash App provides MoonPay with a potentially important distribution advantage. Block reported approximately 59 million active users in June, giving the payments ecosystem a substantial existing consumer base familiar with digital financial services.

MoonPay co-founder and CEO Ivan Soto-Wright said the integration allows users to access the digital asset ecosystem through an application they already know and trust. From a market-structure perspective, reducing payment friction could be particularly important for attracting users who may be interested in crypto but remain reluctant to navigate unfamiliar exchanges, wallets or banking interfaces.

MoonPay Expands Beyond the Traditional Crypto Onramp

The Cash App integration also fits into a broader strategic transformation at MoonPay. The company has historically been known primarily as a fiat-to-crypto onramp, but its recent acquisitions indicate an effort to become a more comprehensive provider of digital asset infrastructure.

MoonPay acquired Solana trading infrastructure provider DFlow in May, followed by crypto security firm Sodot in April and cross-chain infrastructure startup Glide in July. It also launched PayBox, a vault designed to allow users of AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Claude to authorize crypto transactions while retaining custody of their assets.

These moves suggest MoonPay is positioning itself across multiple layers of the crypto economy, from payments and trading infrastructure to security and transaction authorization.

Competition and Regulatory Considerations

MoonPay’s expanding payment network already includes integrations with PayPal and Venmo, demonstrating a strategy centered on connecting established consumer payment channels with crypto markets. The approach could help digital assets become less dependent on dedicated crypto-native interfaces.

Regulatory positioning remains an important component of that expansion. MoonPay holds a BitLicense and Limited Purpose Trust Charter from the New York State Department of Financial Services and is authorized under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation in the Netherlands.

Outlook: Lower Friction Could Broaden Crypto Adoption

The Cash App integration highlights an increasingly important battleground in digital assets: not simply attracting users, but making crypto transactions feel similar to conventional digital payments. If MoonPay can successfully combine consumer payment access with broader asset availability, it could strengthen its position as a bridge between traditional fintech and crypto markets.

The opportunity comes with execution and regulatory risks. Payment reliability, compliance requirements and consumer demand will determine whether these integrations translate into sustained transaction growth. For investors and industry participants, MoonPay’s expansion offers another indication that the next phase of crypto adoption may be driven less by standalone exchanges and more by embedding digital assets directly into familiar financial platforms.
