SKN | Blockchain.com Targets $500 Million IPO as Crypto Capital Markets Reopen

Key Takeaways

  • Blockchain.com is reportedly targeting about $500 million from a U.S. IPO, with a potential valuation of $4 billion to $6 billion.
  • The proposed listing would value the company below its $14 billion private-market valuation reached during the 2022 crypto boom, highlighting the changing economics of digital-asset businesses.
  • The IPO comes as crypto capital markets reopen, giving investors another test of institutional demand for established blockchain infrastructure companies.

Blockchain.com is preparing for a potential U.S. initial public offering that could raise approximately $500 million, according to reports, marking another significant test for crypto companies returning to public markets. The potential listing comes as Bitcoin trades near $83,500 and digital-asset firms increasingly position themselves at the intersection of traditional finance, custody, brokerage and blockchain infrastructure.

Blockchain.com Targets a $4 Billion to $6 Billion Valuation

The company is reportedly discussing a valuation between $4 billion and $6 billion for the IPO, although the final size and terms remain subject to change. Blockchain.com previously reached a $14 billion valuation in 2022, during a period when crypto assets and private-market valuations were substantially higher.

The gap between the previous valuation and the potential IPO range illustrates how public-market investors may place greater emphasis on recurring revenue, profitability and operating efficiency than private investors did during the previous crypto cycle.

Blockchain.com confidentially submitted draft IPO documents to U.S. regulators in May. The company has not publicly established the number of shares, offering price or final timing.

Crypto Market Conditions Have Improved

The proposed offering arrives after a strong but volatile recovery across digital assets. Bitcoin closed Sept. 28 at approximately $83,500, down about 1.1%, after trading between roughly $82,600 and $85,000. Trading volume was around 72,000 BTC, substantially above the 36,600 BTC recorded on Sept. 27.

Ethereum remained comparatively stable, trading near $2,690 on Sept. 29 after recording a Sept. 28 range between approximately $2,639 and $2,720. The resilience of major crypto assets provides a more constructive backdrop for capital raising, although rising Treasury yields and elevated energy prices remain important macro risks for speculative and growth-oriented assets.

Blockchain Infrastructure Moves Closer to Traditional Markets

Blockchain.com’s potential IPO also comes as the company expands beyond its traditional wallet and brokerage activities. The company has more than 95 million wallets and over 43 million verified users, while it has facilitated more than $1.1 trillion in cryptocurrency transactions.

Its recent partnership with the New York Stock Exchange to explore tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs further connects the company to the developing market for blockchain-based traditional assets. That strategy could become an important part of how public-market investors evaluate Blockchain.com’s long-term business model.

IPO Will Test Institutional Demand for Crypto Companies

The offering would provide a fresh benchmark for valuing a major crypto infrastructure company after the industry’s earlier public-market cycle produced mixed results. For investors, the key questions will center on revenue quality, profitability, regulatory exposure and the sustainability of activity across trading and tokenized financial products. If Blockchain.com proceeds, its pricing and aftermarket performance will offer another indication of how public markets are recalibrating valuations for established digital-asset businesses as crypto capital markets continue to reopen.
