Key Points:
- Rachel Conlan, formerly Binance’s global chief marketing officer, has joined the Solana Foundation as chief strategy officer, while Jamal Raees, previously at Polygon Labs, becomes general manager of payments.
- Solana has processed more than $5 trillion in stablecoin volume in 2026, while real-world assets on the network have surpassed $4.5 billion and tokenized equity supply has exceeded $620 million.
- The appointments signal a stronger focus on institutional partnerships, payments and tokenized assets as financial activity increasingly moves onto blockchain infrastructure.
The Solana Foundation is expanding its institutional leadership team as it intensifies efforts to bring payments, tokenized securities and other financial assets onchain. The appointments of former Binance executive Rachel Conlan and Polygon Labs veteran Jamal Raees come as Solana reports rapidly increasing stablecoin and real-world-asset activity, positioning the network for a larger role in institutional digital finance.
Solana Adds Senior Institutional and Payments Leadership
Conlan has been appointed chief strategy officer, with responsibility for institutional partnerships, ecosystem growth and go-to-market strategy. She joins after three years as Binance’s global chief marketing officer and previously held senior roles at OKX, CAA Sports and advertising group Havas.
Her appointment gives Solana an executive with experience spanning major cryptocurrency platforms and traditional commercial organizations. The immediate objective is to translate growing institutional interest into partnerships and actual deployments, particularly as financial companies increasingly evaluate blockchain infrastructure for asset issuance and settlement.
Raees joins as general manager of payments after working at Polygon Labs, stablecoin infrastructure company Bridge and payments firm Wyre. His mandate is to work directly with payment companies and enterprises to expand Solana’s use as global payments infrastructure.
Stablecoins and Tokenized Assets Are Scaling
The leadership changes arrive alongside significant growth in Solana’s financial activity. According to the Solana Foundation, the network processed more than $5 trillion in stablecoin volume during 2026. Real-world assets have surpassed $4.5 billion, while tokenized equity supply has crossed $620 million.
Those figures indicate that Solana’s institutional strategy is increasingly focused on financial applications rather than solely cryptocurrency trading. The network’s August data already showed real-world assets exceeding $4 billion across more than 350,000 addresses, while tokenized-stock activity continued expanding.
For institutional participants, the combination of stablecoin settlement and tokenized assets is particularly significant because it allows payments and financial instruments to operate on the same programmable infrastructure. The commercial opportunity, however, depends on sustained transaction volumes and adoption by regulated institutions.
Payments Become a Strategic Growth Area
Raees’ appointment also comes as Solana develops infrastructure aimed at higher-volume digital payments. In September, the Foundation introduced Payment Channels, allowing users or AI agents to authorize a spending limit and settle multiple payments without requiring an individual onchain signature for every transaction. The system is designed around the x402 and Machine Payments Protocol ecosystems.
Existing payment activity is also expanding. Western Union launched a Visa card backed by its USDPT stablecoin on Solana across 37 markets, while MoneyGram introduced an API connecting Solana applications to nearly 500,000 cash locations in more than 170 countries.
Institutional Tokenization Enters a More Competitive Phase
Solana’s institutional push is unfolding as traditional financial firms increasingly experiment with blockchain-based markets. Project Harmonia, for example, connects Allfunds’ institutional fund-distribution network with tokenized funds on Solana; Allfunds has approximately €1.9 trillion in assets under administration.
For crypto investors, the appointments therefore represent more than an expansion of the Foundation’s executive team. They reflect a strategic shift toward institutional distribution, payments and internet-native capital markets. The next indicators to watch are stablecoin settlement volumes, tokenized-equity activity, enterprise integrations and institutional fund deployments. Sustained growth across those areas would provide stronger evidence that Solana’s tokenized-finance strategy is translating from experimentation into recurring financial activity.
