SKN | Webull Expands Crypto Trading in Canada Through Coinbase Partnership

Webull is expanding its Canadian brokerage offering to include cryptocurrency trading, adding digital assets alongside stocks, exchange-traded funds and options. The move extends the self-directed brokerage platform’s crypto presence beyond the United States, Australia and Brazil as cryptocurrency ownership continues to rise in Canada.

The company announced Monday that its Canadian crypto offering will be powered by Coinbase’s Crypto-as-a-Service infrastructure. Coinbase will provide the underlying trading and custody services, while Webull will offer the digital asset experience to its Canadian retail clients.

Bitcoin, Ether and Solana Among Available Assets

Webull’s Canadian website currently displays 10 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Solana (SOL), while indicating that additional digital assets are also available.

The expansion gives Canadian customers access to cryptocurrency through the same broader investment platform used for traditional financial products. Webull already offers stocks, ETFs and options in Canada, making the addition of digital assets another step toward consolidating multiple investment categories within a single retail trading platform.

The integration with Coinbase also allows Webull to leverage established infrastructure for cryptocurrency trading and custody rather than building those capabilities independently.

Canadian Crypto Ownership Continues to Rise

Webull cited increasing cryptocurrency adoption in Canada as a key factor behind the expansion. The company pointed to research from the Ontario Securities Commission indicating that digital asset ownership has increased to 25% this year, compared with 10% in 2023.

The increase suggests that cryptocurrency has moved further into the mainstream among Canadian investors, creating an expanding potential customer base for brokerages seeking to add digital assets to their platforms.

For Webull, entering the Canadian crypto market provides an opportunity to broaden its relationship with retail investors by offering access to both traditional securities and digital assets through its existing brokerage ecosystem.

Regulatory Framework Continues to Develop

The expansion comes as Canadian regulators work toward establishing clearer rules for the cryptocurrency industry. One area receiving particular attention is the regulatory treatment of stablecoins.

Canada currently does not have comprehensive rules covering fiat-backed stablecoins. However, the Stablecoin Act introduced following the 2025 federal budget would establish requirements for both domestic and foreign stablecoin issuers.

The developing regulatory environment could provide greater clarity for financial platforms entering the cryptocurrency market, while also creating additional compliance requirements for businesses offering digital asset services.

Coinbase Partnership Supports Canadian Expansion

The collaboration with Coinbase gives Webull access to infrastructure covering cryptocurrency trading and custody as it expands its Canadian offering. The arrangement allows Webull to add digital assets to its existing platform without operating the underlying crypto infrastructure itself.

As cryptocurrency ownership grows and regulatory frameworks continue to develop, the Canadian market is becoming increasingly relevant for financial platforms seeking to expand their digital asset businesses.

Webull’s Canadian crypto launch therefore represents more than an expansion of its product lineup. It positions the brokerage to participate in a growing market where retail demand for digital assets is increasing while regulators move toward clearer rules governing the industry.
