Key Points

  • AI Financial Corp., linked to World Liberty Financial, reported a massive $271.5 million net loss for the first quarter of 2026.
  • The company warned that its financial condition raises “substantial doubt” about its ability to continue operating over the next 12 months.
  • Heavy unrealized losses tied to WLFI token holdings and mounting liabilities have intensified pressure on the firm’s balance sheet.

AI Financial Corp., a token treasury company connected to World Liberty Financial, has warned investors that growing financial pressure could threaten its ability to continue operating over the next year.

The company disclosed the warning in its first-quarter 2026 financial results released Monday after reporting a net loss of $271.5 million.

That compares sharply with losses of approximately $2.4 million during the same period a year earlier.

AI Financial stated that its deteriorating balance sheet and liquidity position raise “substantial doubt” about its ability to remain a going concern within the next 12 months.

Working Capital Deficit Deepens

According to the filing, AI Financial held approximately $32.2 million in assets as of March 28 while carrying roughly $39.1 million in liabilities.

The imbalance left the company with a working capital deficit estimated at around $5.5 million.

The company said those conditions create uncertainty around its ability to meet future obligations without outside intervention or additional liquidity support.

AI Financial was previously known as ALT5 Sigma before pivoting aggressively into crypto treasury activities connected to World Liberty Financial and its WLFI token ecosystem.

Massive WLFI Exposure Drives Losses

The company’s balance sheet is heavily tied to holdings of WLFI tokens linked to the Trump family-backed crypto platform World Liberty Financial.

AI Financial disclosed that it held approximately 7.3 billion WLFI tokens valued at around $703.4 million as of March 28.

However, the value of those holdings has dropped sharply from more than $1 billion recorded in late December.

The decline generated an unrealized loss of roughly $348.3 million.

The company originally spent nearly $1.46 billion acquiring the WLFI token position, making the falling valuation one of the primary drivers behind the company’s worsening financial condition.

Borrowing From World Liberty

AI Financial also revealed that it borrowed nearly $15 million from World Liberty Financial earlier this year under a loan agreement with the crypto platform.

The borrowed funds were reportedly intended to support a share repurchase program and finance additional purchases of WLFI tokens.

The arrangement highlights the increasingly intertwined relationship between AI Financial and the Trump-linked crypto ecosystem.

World Liberty Financial CEO Zach Witkoff currently serves as chairman of AI Financial.

Meanwhile, World Liberty co-founder Zak Folkman became a board observer following the company’s major treasury restructuring earlier this year.

Stock Continues Sharp Decline

Investor confidence in AI Financial has continued deteriorating alongside the company’s mounting losses.

Shares of AI Financial closed down more than 6% on Tuesday after already falling approximately 10% during Monday trading.

Over the past 12 months, the company’s stock price has collapsed nearly 87.5%.

The company first moved aggressively into the WLFI treasury strategy in August after completing a $1.5 billion direct offering and private placement led by World Liberty Financial.

Trump Family Connections Draw Attention

The company’s close ties to the Trump family-backed crypto project continue drawing scrutiny from investors and political observers.

Eric Trump previously joined AI Financial’s board following the restructuring, although his name was quietly removed from the company’s leadership section on its website late last month.

The broader World Liberty Financial ecosystem has become one of the more politically connected crypto ventures in the industry, particularly following Donald Trump’s return to office and the administration’s increasingly favorable stance toward digital assets.

Crypto Treasury Risks Come Into Focus

AI Financial’s struggles also reflect broader concerns surrounding crypto treasury companies that accumulated large token positions during periods of market optimism.

Many publicly traded firms rapidly expanded crypto-related holdings over the past two years, often relying heavily on token valuations and unrealized gains to support balance sheets.

As volatility returned to digital asset markets, several of those firms have faced mounting losses, liquidity challenges and investor skepticism over the sustainability of token-based treasury strategies.

For AI Financial, much now depends on whether WLFI token valuations stabilize and whether the company can secure enough liquidity to continue operations over the coming year.
