BitMart has missed its self-imposed Sept. 9 deadline to provide users with a restructuring and business resumption roadmap, instead announcing the appointment of financial adviser Alvarez & Marsal.
The exchange said Alvarez & Marsal will work alongside its legal advisers to review the company’s assets, financial position and outstanding stakeholder issues. The review will also examine potential paths forward, including proposals submitted by unidentified third parties.
The appointment represents a new stage in BitMart’s efforts to address questions surrounding its financial condition and the future of its platform.
However, Wednesday’s announcement did not include the asset figures, recovery estimates or withdrawal timetable that affected users have been seeking.
BitMart said it plans to launch a dedicated web portal within five working days to collect user feedback on its proposed action plan and future direction.
The exchange said additional information regarding the feedback process and action plan would be released on a rolling basis over the following three weeks.
The timeline gives users another set of dates to monitor after BitMart failed to provide the broader roadmap by its original deadline.
Echo Base, which organized an ad hoc committee representing BitMart claimholders, described the appointment of Alvarez & Marsal as the most encouraging step the exchange has taken since July.
However, Roshan Dharia, CEO of Echo Base, said the latest announcement still left several fundamental questions unanswered, including BitMart’s reserve position, asset inventory, potential recovery amount and timetable for withdrawals.
BitMart has faced growing scrutiny over its financial position and treatment of customer assets since announcing a wind-down on July 26.
The announcement followed reports from users of delays in cryptocurrency withdrawals, increasing concerns about access to funds and the exchange’s ability to resume normal operations.
The appointment of an external financial adviser could provide a more structured assessment of BitMart’s financial position and potential restructuring options. Alvarez & Marsal’s review may also help determine the scale of outstanding obligations and the options available to stakeholders.
For customers, however, the absence of concrete information on reserves and withdrawals means uncertainty remains high.
Neither BitMart nor Alvarez & Marsal provided additional comments regarding the situation.
BitMart’s appointment of Alvarez & Marsal marks a potentially important step toward determining the exchange’s financial position and possible recovery paths, but it does not yet resolve the central concerns facing customers. The upcoming feedback portal and further disclosures over the next three weeks will be critical for determining whether BitMart can provide greater transparency around customer assets, restructuring plans and eventual withdrawal access.
