Bitcoin Suisse plans to move as many as half of its Swiss-based positions abroad as the crypto financial services firm expands its international operations and develops a broader wealth and asset management business.
The company, founded in Zug in 2013, provides cryptocurrency trading, custody, staking and lending services. According to Swiss financial publication Finews, the restructuring could affect as many as 60 of its 120 positions in Switzerland.
The roles expected to be affected are primarily back-office and administrative positions rather than the company’s core client-facing operations.
Bitcoin Suisse plans to relocate affected functions to lower-cost international hubs, including Bratislava and Vietnam. The company is expected to establish a new location in Vietnam in the coming years.
CEO Andrej Majcen said operating the affected services in these markets would be significantly less expensive, making cost efficiency an important factor behind the restructuring.
Majcen also emphasized that the workforce changes are not being driven by weakness in the cryptocurrency market.
Instead, the company views the restructuring as part of a broader strategy to expand internationally and build a more diversified wealth and asset management operation.
The shift illustrates how crypto financial-services firms are increasingly optimizing their operating structures as they move toward more traditional financial-services models.
Bitcoin Suisse has been expanding beyond its traditional Swiss market as it seeks to establish a broader international presence.
In June, the company said it was targeting institutional investors, family offices, asset managers and high-net-worth individuals as part of its evolution toward a global wealth management platform.
That strategy places greater emphasis on serving professional and institutional clients rather than relying primarily on Switzerland’s domestic cryptocurrency market.
The company has also expanded its regulatory footprint.
Bitcoin Suisse secured licenses in Liechtenstein and Bermuda earlier this year, while its Middle East subsidiary received full regulatory approval in Abu Dhabi in July.
The planned relocation of Swiss positions reflects the operational challenges facing financial companies that maintain significant infrastructure in high-cost jurisdictions while expanding internationally.
By moving selected administrative and back-office functions to lower-cost locations, Bitcoin Suisse can potentially reduce operating expenses while directing resources toward international client acquisition, regulated services and wealth management.
The strategy also demonstrates that the maturation of the crypto industry is increasingly bringing conventional financial-management considerations into digital-asset businesses, including geographic diversification, cost optimization and regulatory expansion.
Bitcoin Suisse’s planned workforce restructuring represents a significant change for the Swiss-based company, but management characterizes the move as part of its international growth strategy rather than a response to declining cryptocurrency markets. Relocating back-office functions while expanding regulated operations across new jurisdictions could allow the company to reduce costs and concentrate resources on institutional and wealth management services. The execution of that strategy will determine how effectively Bitcoin Suisse can balance its Swiss heritage with its ambitions as a global financial platform.
