Grayscale’s Zcash ETF (ZCSH) has filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a 3-for-1 forward share split as demand and market interest in Zcash continue to increase.
Under the planned split, shareholders recorded at the close of trading on Sept. 28 will receive two additional shares for every share they currently own.
The transaction will increase the ETF’s number of outstanding shares while proportionally reducing the price per share.
The split itself does not change the underlying value of an investor’s position. For example, an investor holding 10 shares worth $300 each would own 30 shares worth approximately $100 each following the split, leaving the total position at $3,000, assuming no other market movement.
Grayscale said the forward split is expected to make the ETF more accessible by lowering its per-share price.
The decision follows a substantial increase in the value of Zcash over the past year. The ZEC token has gained approximately 2,800% during the period cited in the source report, pushing the price of the underlying asset and the ETF higher.
A lower nominal share price can also make the fund easier to access for investors who prefer purchasing whole shares, although the split itself does not change the ETF’s underlying exposure or economic value.
The share-split announcement comes as Zcash has been experiencing significant market momentum.
ZEC climbed as high as approximately $1,521 early Friday before retreating somewhat, according to the source report. The move represented a new effective all-time high based on the cited market data.
The latest rally followed comments from Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang, who disclosed that the crypto investment firm had purchased an unspecified amount of ZEC.
Huang described Zcash as a “private complement to Bitcoin” and expressed support for the network’s developer funding mechanism.
His comments also highlighted the importance of continued investment in privacy technology as artificial intelligence-driven cyber capabilities and quantum computing develop.
Zcash distinguishes itself through shielded transactions that allow users to conceal transaction addresses and amounts using zero-knowledge proofs.
The technology enables transaction validity to be demonstrated without exposing certain underlying transaction information, making privacy a central component of the Zcash network.
That positioning has contributed to renewed attention toward ZEC as investors and industry participants reassess the role of privacy-focused digital assets.
The combination of ZEC’s sharp price appreciation and increased institutional attention has also increased the nominal price of investment products providing exposure to the asset.
The 3-for-1 split will reduce ZCSH’s per-share price while increasing the number of shares outstanding on a proportional basis. The move does not by itself change the economic value of shareholders’ holdings, but it may make the ETF’s individual shares more accessible at a lower nominal price. Meanwhile, Zcash’s sharp rally, institutional interest and continued focus on privacy technology remain key factors shaping market attention around the asset and its related investment products.
