Key Points:

  • Emirates now allows eligible UAE residents to pay for flight bookings using cryptocurrencies through Crypto.com Pay.
  • Cryptocurrency payments are converted into UAE dirhams (AED) before settlement, meaning Emirates does not hold digital assets.
  • The service is currently available through the Emirates website and mobile app for qualifying customers in the UAE.
  • The launch reflects growing adoption of cryptocurrency payments by mainstream businesses in the Middle East.

Emirates Introduces Crypto Payments for Flight Bookings

Dubai-based airline Emirates has launched cryptocurrency payment support for eligible customers in the United Arab Emirates, allowing travelers to purchase flights using digital assets through Crypto.com Pay.

The new payment option is available on both the Emirates website and mobile application, providing customers with an alternative to traditional payment methods.

The rollout represents another milestone in the airline’s digital payments strategy as cryptocurrency adoption continues to expand across the UAE.

How the Payment System Works

Customers booking flights through the Emirates mobile app are redirected to the Crypto.com application, where they authorize the payment directly from their cryptocurrency wallet.

Desktop users complete the transaction by scanning a QR code during checkout.

While customers pay using cryptocurrency, Emirates receives settlement in UAE dirhams (AED), with Crypto.com handling the conversion process behind the scenes.

This approach allows the airline to offer cryptocurrency payment options without directly holding or managing digital assets on its balance sheet.

Partnership Expands Digital Payment Options

The service follows a partnership announced between Emirates and Crypto.com in 2025 to explore blockchain-powered payment solutions.

Crypto.com’s payment infrastructure enables merchants to accept cryptocurrency while continuing to receive payments in local fiat currency, reducing exposure to cryptocurrency price volatility.

The integration is supported by Crypto.com’s regulatory approvals in the UAE, allowing the company to provide digital payment services under the country’s financial regulatory framework.

Targeting a Digital-First Customer Base

Emirates said the addition of cryptocurrency payments reflects changing customer preferences, particularly among younger travelers who increasingly manage finances, purchases and travel planning through mobile devices.

The airline views digital payment innovation as an important part of enhancing the customer experience while supporting Dubai’s broader ambitions to become a global hub for financial technology and digital assets.

At present, the cryptocurrency payment option is limited to eligible UAE residents, and neither Emirates nor Crypto.com has announced plans to expand the service internationally.

UAE Continues to Advance Crypto Adoption

The launch reinforces the United Arab Emirates’ position as one of the world’s leading jurisdictions for cryptocurrency adoption and blockchain innovation.

The country has introduced regulatory frameworks designed to support digital asset businesses while encouraging financial institutions and major corporations to explore blockchain-based payment solutions.

Emirates joins a growing list of regional companies adopting cryptocurrency payment infrastructure as digital assets become increasingly integrated into mainstream commerce.

The move also follows similar initiatives within the UAE travel sector, where airlines and merchants have begun accepting digital asset payments through regulated payment providers.

Outlook

Emirates’ adoption of Crypto.com Pay marks another step toward mainstream cryptocurrency acceptance in the Middle East. By allowing customers to pay with digital assets while continuing to settle transactions in UAE dirhams, the airline combines blockchain-powered payment efficiency with the stability of traditional financial systems. As regulatory frameworks continue to evolve, similar integrations could become increasingly common across the global travel and payments industries.
