SKN | Ethereum Rising Wedge Signals Potential ETH Correction Toward $1,600

Ethereum has recorded a strong recovery over the past month, gaining approximately 25% as market sentiment improved across major digital assets. However, technical analysts are closely watching a developing rising wedge pattern, which historically signals weakening momentum and the possibility of a short-term correction.

The setup emerges as cryptocurrency markets continue balancing improving institutional interest, shifting macro expectations, and ongoing uncertainty around risk assets. For investors tracking Ethereum, the key question is whether recent gains represent the beginning of a sustained recovery or a temporary rebound within a broader consolidation phase.

ETH Rally Faces Technical Resistance Near Key Levels

Ether was trading near $1,890 on July 24 after recovering significantly from its June low near $1,510. While the move higher has demonstrated renewed buying interest, the recovery has developed between two upward-sloping and converging trendlines, forming a technical rising wedge formation.

A rising wedge generally indicates that bullish momentum may be weakening despite continued price increases. The pattern reflects a situation where buyers continue pushing prices higher, but each advance becomes smaller as selling pressure gradually increases.

For Ethereum, confirmation of the bearish pattern would require a breakdown below the lower trendline accompanied by stronger trading volume. Technical analysts typically measure the potential downside target by calculating the height of the wedge formation, which in this case points toward a possible decline toward the $1,600–$1,605 range.

Critical Support Zone Around $1,830 Could Determine Market Direction

The immediate technical level being monitored is Ethereum’s support area between $1,830 and $1,850, which closely aligns with the 50-day exponential moving average at approximately $1,832. This moving average has historically been used by traders as an indicator of short-term market momentum.

A breakdown below this zone could increase selling pressure and potentially accelerate a move toward the $1,600 region, representing a decline of roughly 15% from current price levels. Conversely, maintaining support could indicate that buyers remain active and that the recent recovery phase has not yet lost structural strength.

The market reaction around this level may also provide insight into investor positioning, as traders assess whether Ethereum’s recent advance is supported by sustainable demand or primarily driven by short-term momentum.

Momentum Indicators Show Signs of Cooling Investor Demand

Beyond price structure, Ethereum’s momentum indicators are also showing signs of moderation. The relative strength index (RSI) has moved below its moving average after approaching the 60 level, suggesting that upward momentum has weakened.

Although the RSI remains above the neutral 50 threshold, the decline indicates that buyers are no longer accelerating their positions at the same pace seen during the recent recovery. For institutional investors, this type of momentum shift can influence short-term positioning decisions, particularly during periods of uncertain liquidity conditions.

Ethereum’s broader market outlook will continue to depend on several factors, including network activity, institutional flows, regulatory developments, and overall cryptocurrency market sentiment.

Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor whether Ethereum can defend the $1,830–$1,850 support range or whether the rising wedge pattern triggers a deeper correction toward the $1,600 area. While technical indicators highlight potential downside risks, future price direction will likely depend on the balance between renewed market participation and broader macroeconomic conditions affecting digital assets.
