SKN | Bitcoin Turns More Bullish as Fed Rate Pause Bets and Seasonal Strength Lift Market Sentiment

Key Points:

  • Bitcoin traded near $85,000 as investors assessed weaker US labor-market data and increased expectations for the Federal Reserve to hold interest rates steady.
  • More than 75% of market participants expected an October Fed rate hold, potentially supporting liquidity-sensitive assets such as cryptocurrencies.
  • Fundstrat’s Sean Farrell identified October seasonality, declining real yields, and improving macro conditions as potential tailwinds, while warning that bond and credit-market stress could still trigger volatility.

Bitcoin is showing signs of a more constructive market setup as investors increase bets that the Federal Reserve will pause interest-rate changes at its October meeting. BTC traded near $85,000 on Friday, while easing bond yields, weaker employment data, and historically favorable October seasonality helped improve sentiment across cryptocurrency markets.

The shift comes after a difficult first half of 2026 and highlights the growing importance of macroeconomic liquidity for digital assets. As institutional participation expands, Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies remain increasingly sensitive to changes in interest-rate expectations, Treasury yields, and broader risk appetite.

Fed Pause Expectations Strengthen Bitcoin’s Macro Backdrop

Market expectations have shifted following a weaker September jobs report, reducing concerns about additional rate increases. According to the source data, more than 75% of market participants expected the Federal Reserve to keep rates unchanged at its October meeting.

A pause could provide some relief for risk assets because higher interest rates increase the relative attractiveness of cash and short-term government securities. If policymakers maintain rates rather than tightening further, investors may become more willing to allocate capital toward assets with greater volatility, including cryptocurrencies.

For Bitcoin, the relationship is particularly relevant because liquidity conditions have become an increasingly important component of institutional market analysis. A sustained improvement in financial conditions could provide support, although the impact would depend on inflation, economic growth, and future Federal Reserve guidance.

October Seasonality Adds Another Potential Tailwind

Fundstrat Head of Digital Assets Sean Farrell pointed to seasonal trends as another factor supporting Bitcoin’s current setup. Farrell said October has historically been cryptocurrency’s strongest month based on both average and median returns, with an approximately 80% historical win rate.

Seasonality alone does not determine future performance, but it can influence investor positioning. After Bitcoin’s difficult first half, stronger historical performance during October may encourage market participants to reassess risk exposure if macroeconomic conditions are also improving.

Ether has also advanced alongside Bitcoin, suggesting that the improving sentiment is not limited to the largest cryptocurrency. However, market participants continue to distinguish between short-term positioning and evidence of a durable change in the broader crypto cycle.

Falling Real Yields Could Improve Bitcoin’s Relative Appeal

Another important development is the recent decline in two-year real Treasury yields, which measure inflation-adjusted returns on short-term US government debt. Farrell argued that continued declines in real yields could support Bitcoin by reducing the relative appeal of holding inflation-adjusted government securities.

At the same time, the strategist cautioned that stress in sovereign bonds and credit markets could create a short-term drawdown in cryptocurrencies. This creates a potentially contradictory environment: financial stress may eventually encourage easier policy and greater liquidity, but an abrupt risk-off event can initially pressure Bitcoin alongside other risk assets.

That distinction is important for institutional investors evaluating the current rally. Macro stress does not automatically translate into immediate Bitcoin strength; the timing and policy response can determine how markets react.

What Investors Will Watch Next

Bitcoin’s ability to maintain momentum around $85,000 will depend on whether the improving macro backdrop develops into sustained liquidity support. Investors will monitor Federal Reserve communication, Treasury yields, real yields, credit-market conditions, and subsequent economic data for confirmation.

Citi’s decision to raise its base-case Bitcoin forecast to $113,000 from $82,000 adds to the growing attention around the cryptocurrency’s potential upside, but forecasts remain sensitive to assumptions about liquidity and market conditions. The next phase of Bitcoin’s recovery will therefore depend on whether macroeconomic tailwinds persist without triggering the broader financial stress that could temporarily overwhelm risk appetite.
