SKN | Bitcoin Slips Toward $77,900 as Binance Records $3.64 Billion in Net Outflows After Withdrawals Resume

Key Points:

  • Bitcoin declined approximately 0.4% to around $77,900 as investors assessed the market impact of renewed withdrawals from Binance following its major security breach.
  • Binance recorded approximately $3.64 billion in net outflows during the first nine and a half hours after withdrawals reopened, equivalent to approximately 2.1% of its reported assets.
  • U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $643 million in withdrawals on Friday, adding to liquidity pressure and reflecting institutional caution following the security incident.

Bitcoin came under renewed pressure on November 2 as substantial capital withdrawals from Binance and U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds highlighted lingering concerns across the cryptocurrency market. Although the exchange had resumed withdrawals following its major security breach, the immediate movement of billions of dollars in customer assets demonstrated that restoring operational access does not automatically restore investor confidence.

Bitcoin Weakens as Market Participants Reassess Risk

Bitcoin declined approximately 0.4% to $77,900 from midnight UTC, extending a period of market uncertainty following the Binance security incident. The relatively limited price movement contrasted with the scale of capital leaving the exchange, suggesting that withdrawal activity had not translated into an equivalent immediate decline in Bitcoin’s market valuation.

The distinction matters because cryptocurrency prices reflect trading activity across multiple exchanges and liquidity venues. Large withdrawals from one platform can indicate changing investor preferences without necessarily representing immediate selling. Some customers may be transferring assets into private wallets or alternative exchanges to reduce their exposure to centralized trading platforms.

Nevertheless, the scale and timing of the movements indicate that the security incident has become an important factor in short-term market positioning. Investors are reassessing not only cryptocurrency price exposure but also the operational risks associated with the platforms holding their assets.

Binance Faces Significant Outflows After Withdrawal Restrictions End

Binance recorded approximately $3.64 billion in net outflows during the first nine and a half hours after withdrawals resumed, according to figures reported following the reopening. The amount represented approximately 2.1% of the exchange’s assets, illustrating the speed at which customers responded once access to withdrawals was restored.

The withdrawals followed an approximately 45-hour period during which customers faced restrictions after the reported $6.3 billion security breach. The exchange had begun restoring withdrawal services in phases, initially prioritizing the Bitcoin network.

The outflows should be interpreted carefully. A net withdrawal does not necessarily mean customers have sold their holdings or that the exchange cannot meet its obligations. Transfers to external wallets, competing exchanges and other custody arrangements can all contribute to the movement of assets. However, the figures provide a measurable indication of customer behavior following the incident.

For Binance, the immediate challenge extends beyond reopening its services. Maintaining liquidity, communicating transparently and demonstrating the resilience of its security infrastructure will be central to limiting further customer departures.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Add to Institutional Caution

Pressure was also visible in the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF market. These investment products recorded approximately $643 million in net outflows on Friday, marking their largest single-day withdrawal since June 25, according to market reporting.

The timing is significant because the ETF withdrawals followed the Binance incident, indicating that institutional and traditional-market investors were also reducing exposure during the period of heightened uncertainty. Unlike exchange withdrawals, ETF outflows generally reflect investors redeeming fund shares, which can influence the underlying funds’ Bitcoin holdings and associated market flows.

However, one day’s ETF activity does not establish a sustained reversal in institutional demand. Investors may adjust exposure in response to immediate volatility, security concerns or broader portfolio risk management. Whether the outflows continue over subsequent sessions will provide a clearer indication of the market’s underlying appetite for Bitcoin exposure.

Security, Custody and Liquidity Remain Central Market Concerns

The combination of Binance’s net outflows and ETF redemptions highlights two different dimensions of cryptocurrency market risk. Exchange customers are reassessing counterparty and custody exposure, while ETF investors are responding through regulated investment vehicles. Both developments can influence liquidity and sentiment, although their implications for the market are not identical.

Looking ahead, investors will be monitoring Binance’s withdrawal activity, the exchange’s operational recovery and subsequent ETF flow data. Bitcoin’s ability to maintain support around current price levels will also remain important. Ultimately, the longer-term market impact will depend less on the initial reopening of withdrawals and more on whether exchanges can demonstrate operational resilience and rebuild confidence among customers and institutional participants.
